Painting Free Folk Skinchangers (with a 3d printed variant)

For that future Free Folk zoo build with deep striking bears! One set of white, black and brown minis each.

Common preparations

Prime white and Ice base.

Official skinchanger models

For the wolves and eagles, I went for something to be able to tell them apart. One pair as Black fur, one Cold white. There is actually a white eagle species, so go off that and paint White bird/feathers.

For the terrain elements:

For the human element, base one off the cold white fur as above, and one on Brown fur.

Additional elements:

Polar bears

These larger models deserve their own section. For the "white section" bear, glue it into the tray and gapfill using Vallejo Heavy Gel. Glue on other arctic animals around him. For the "brown section" bear, rip it off the base and glue on a piece of cork, so I can place the bear to the back of the tray and make space for two trees.

Prepare as usual, cleanup with white.

Paint as:

3d printed skinchanger

This 3d printed eagle has a little hole just right right for a GW flying base.

Paint the feathers as here

...but the result was way too light, so just apply Nuln Oil overall. Also paint the beak and legs Averland Sunset, wash Dark Umber, highlight with base color.

Paint the polar bear. Add a Night's Watch corpse to the base: Black cloth, medium skintone, Wyldwood hair, Scarlet Red blood pool. Paint Blood for the Blood God! After varnishing.

Paint the human mostly in Black, but leave the furs Cold white.

Additional elements:

  • Dark leather boots and drumstick
  • Light leather bags and straps
  • Dark wood mask
  • Bones on his back
  • feathers as the white eagle
  • Bonewhite drum, then Dark Umber wash in the middle, then Off White where the drumming would erode it

Finally, the wolf as brown fur.

Finished!
